ESCRS 2025: A World-Class Congress Orchestrated by MCI

Where Scientific Innovation Meets Organizational Excellence

In September 2025, Copenhagen hosted the 43rd Annual Congress of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS), a flagship event that brought together more than 15,000 ophthalmology professionals at the Bella Center. With over 250 exhibitors across nearly 10,000 sqm of exhibition space, a scientific programme featuring more than 2,000 experts, and up to 30 parallel sessions, the event offered a unique blend of scientific excellence, hands-on training, and moments of conviviality.

At the heart of this success was the crucial involvement of MCI’s various teams. MCI Switzerland (Core PCO) coordinated the overall organisation, ensuring seamless overall management. MCI UK (Association Management) oversaw the society’s strategic management and support, while MCI The Netherlands supported MCI Switzerland in several areas of the congress management.  MCI US (Journal Management) managed the society’s scientific journal, and Ovation Denmark (Local Support) provided local expertise to ensure an experience perfectly tailored to the Danish context. This international collaboration demonstrates the strength of MCI’s network and its ability to transform ambitions into tangible, memorable experiences.

The 2025 edition stood out for its innovative and engaging formats. iNovation® Day dedicated an entire day to cutting-edge technologies in anterior segment care, bringing together startups and industry leaders. The ESCRS Arena, reimagined with a Nordic “Valhalla” theme, featured lively debates, small-group discussions in a World Café format, and even the convivial ESONT Visionary Pub Quiz. Meanwhile, the Simulation Training Labs gave surgeons the opportunity to refine their techniques on next-generation simulators, bridging theory and practice.

Beyond scientific innovation, the congress fostered community spirit through impactful engagement initiatives such as ESCRS’ Building our Sustainable Society (BoSS) program, featuring various activations, and the ESCRS Booth, with its Member Lounge, speed mentoring sessions, and interactive activities, further encouraged valuable human connections.

Finally, the congress celebrated the 30th anniversary of Femtosecond Lasers with a dedicated exhibition retracing the evolution of this groundbreaking technology, while reaffirming its commitment to sustainability and inclusivity. Carbon offsetting initiatives, hybrid attendance formats, and diversity-promoting actions made ESCRS 2025 a truly responsible and forward-looking event.
