MCI Switzerland & Giga: Advancing Education Through Connectivity

Supports the Giga Connectivity Forum 2025

In a world where digital inclusion has become a key driver for education and economic opportunity, Giga, a joint initiative by UNICEF and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), is committed to helping governments connect every school in the world to the internet. Guided by this ambition, Giga places connectivity at the heart of social progress and equal opportunity, particularly for younger generations.

For over 70 years, UNICEF has been working tirelessly in the world’s most vulnerable regions to protect children’s rights and help them reach their full potential. Through its Office of Innovation, the organization develops and implements creative, scalable solutions to tackle today’s most pressing global challenges. In this same spirit, Giga, founded in 2019, offers open-source technological tools to help governments map schools, model infrastructure needs, and streamline financing and procurement processes. As of June 2024, Giga has contributed to improving connectivity in 14,500 schools, impacting nearly 7.8 million students across more than 140 countries. Its headquarters in Geneva and Technology Centre in Barcelona serve as the operational anchors of this global initiative.

Each year, the Giga Connectivity Forum (GCF) brings together the key stakeholders of this mission: government representatives, private sector leaders, and development experts. The Forum offers a unique space to assess progress, share best practices, present Giga’s latest innovations, and strengthen international cooperation.

For the 2025 edition, which took place from 8 to 10 July in Geneva at the brand-new Giga Connectivity Centre on the Biotech Campus, Giga partnered with MCI Switzerland to design and manage all logistical and operational aspects of the event. Organized alongside the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) and the AI for Good Global Summit, this Forum highlighted national achievements, fostered dialogue between decision-makers, showcased practical technology solutions, and officially unveiled the Giga Connectivity Centre as a hub for innovation and cross-sector collaboration.

As part of this partnership, MCI Switzerland was responsible for coordinating activities across multiple venues, managing vendor relations, providing audiovisual and technical support, handling participant logistics, and overseeing the production and distribution of branded materials. MCI Switzerland is also tasked with setting up dedicated spaces for bilateral meetings between country delegations and Giga’s technical teams, as well as managing event photography, videography, and post-event media production. In addition, the agency supported networking moments and visibility opportunities, particularly those surrounding the official launch of the Connectivity Centre.
